Today we’re stoked to be releasing a remix of Ed West’s ‘A Message from Deemas’ by Oliver Palfreyman.
The remix places hypnotic samples alongside traces of Deemas J’s vocals. Throughout the track the brass section wash in and out of the bass line, a nod to the dub tradition that has inspired the whole EP.
‘A Message from Deemas’ was the first single from Ed’s ‘Messages from the Dance’ series; a four part series based around two samples taken from a Unit 137 dance in New Cross, where vocalists Deemas J & Kosher both presented passionate messages to the crowd. Their words encapsulate some of the positive messages behind sound system culture, which Ed West celebrates with each tune. The singles in the series each have a distinct vibe but are united by their messages.
